Heartworm In Pets

Heartworm is carried by mosquitoes that live in moderate to warm climates such as British Columbia, Manitoba and Ontario here in Canada. If you are traveling out of province, talk to your veterinarian at Park Pet Hospital about heartworm prevention. Unprotected dogs and cats can develop heartworm disease from just 1 infected mosquito bite. Heartworm medication can help protect your pet from intestinal parasites, such as whipworms, hookworms or roundworms which can be transmitted to people. Parasites are not nice for dogs or for the families that care for them. Good prevention is the optimal way to protect both. The Park Pet Hospital team recommends using a prescription heartworm medication. Many come in flavor tabs and are simple to administer and are readily accepted by your pet.
